Length × width × height = volume in CBM
Take a cabinet that is 1.8 metres high, 0.8 metres wide and 0.6 metres deep. On the survey sheet, its volume comes to:
1.8 × 0.8 × 0.6 = 0.864 CBM
That is the measured figure. The space allowed in the truck may change slightly once wrapping, dismantling and loading position are considered.
Volume is different from weight. A carton of books and a carton of cushions can be the same size, yet place very different loads on the vehicle. A survey therefore records heavy and non-stackable pieces too.

Curved furniture leaves gaps. Glass, marble and artwork need protected positions, so their practical space requirement may be greater than their measured dimensions suggest.
