A routine moving permit in Ras Al Khaimah normally requires one to three working days when the tenancy documents, mover details, and vehicle information are complete. Apartment approvals are often faster, while gated communities and free-zone properties need additional security checks.
The term “moving permit” does not describe one emirate-wide government document. Depending on the property, approval comes from the building manager, property management company, gated-community operator or free-zone authority. It may also be called a moving NOC, move-in permit, move-out permit, or vehicle-entry clearance.
Official community information confirms that move-in and move-out requests are handled through the relevant community-management system. Free-zone properties follow their own permit and NOC procedures. Therefore, the moving permit processing time in the UAE depends more on the property’s access rules than the distance of the move.
RAK E Movers uses the following lead times for scheduling purposes. They are practical planning windows rather than guaranteed approval periods set by the government.
How Long Does a Moving Permit Take in Ras Al Khaimah?
A moving permit in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) normally takes 1 to 3 working days. Apply at least 3 working days before an apartment move, 5 working days before a gated-community move, and 7 working days before a free-zone move.
| Property/access type | Normal planning time | Safe application date | Common approval point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apartment building | Same day to 2 working days | 3 working days before moving | Building or property management |
| Standalone villa without controlled access | Often no formal permit | Confirm 2–3 days before moving | Owner, landlord or local security |
| Gated villa community | 2–3 working days | 5 working days before moving | Community management and security |
| Managed residential development | 2–3 working days | 5 working days before moving | Property or community portal |
| Free-zone office or warehouse | 2–5 working days | 7 working days before moving | Zone administration and security |
| Application with missing documents | Longer than the normal period | Move date should remain provisional | Relevant approval authority |
These times begin after a complete application reaches the correct approval team. Sending an incomplete request does not start a reliable processing period.
Considerable application details include:
- Tenant or owner identification
- Tenancy contract or ownership document
- Move-in or move-out date
- Mover’s company name and trade licence
- Vehicle registration number
- Driver and crew identification
- Building or unit number
- Landlord or tenant authorisation
- Clearance of outstanding community charges, where required
The official Al Hamra system, for example, allows residents to submit move-in and move-out requests through its community portal or mobile application. This shows why residents should check the property’s own process rather than looking for one general RAK permit form.
How Long an Apartment Building Permit Takes
An apartment building moving permit generally takes 1 to 2 working days after the building manager receives a complete request.
Dubai Municipality’s Building Control and Building Permits Department has laid down a series of procedures and steps for issuing Building Permits and Completion Certificates.
A simple apartment approval normally involves checking the tenancy record, confirming the moving company, reserving the service lift, and notifying security. Approval slows down when the tenant has not supplied the moving vehicle number, the building requires a refundable deposit, or the requested lift time is already booked.
Some buildings issue a written NOC. Others send an email confirmation or place the approved move in the security register. Ask which form of confirmation the moving crew must show at the entrance.
Do not assume that verbal approval from a landlord is enough. The landlord may approve the move while building security still requires a separate entry record. Confirm these four points before move day:
- The permitted moving date
- The approved access hours
- The service-lift booking
- The vehicle and crew-entry requirements
Send the mover’s documents with the first application. A complete request prevents the management office from returning the application for missing information.
How Long a Gated Community Clearance Takes
A gated-community clearance normally requires two to three working days because the request passes through community management and security registration.
The approval team may need to verify the property, tenant, moving company, vehicle, and crew before allowing a truck through the gate. Some communities also restrict moving to designated days and daytime hours.
Al Hamra Community Management currently lists move-in and move-out hours from:
- Monday to Saturday (9:00 AM to 6:00 PM)
Remember: No move in allowed on Sunday and Public Holidays
These published restrictions demonstrate why approval alone does not guarantee that every date or time is available.
Submit the following information together:
- Community and property name
- Villa, townhouse or apartment number
- Requested date and arrival time
- Moving company trade licence
- Truck registration number
- Driver and crew Emirates ID details, if requested
- Tenant or owner authorisation
- Move-in or move-out supporting documents
A clearance issued for one vehicle or date may not remain valid after a schedule change. Inform community management before replacing the truck, changing the crew or moving the booking to another day.
How Long a Free-Zone Vehicle Permit Takes

A free-zone vehicle-entry permit should be planned for two to five working days, although the exact period depends on the zone, facility and work involved.
An office relocation involving boxes and standard furniture usually requires fewer checks than a warehouse move involving heavy equipment, loading machinery or external contractors. Security may request the mover’s trade licence, employee details, vehicle information, insurance documents and a written authorisation from the tenant company.
RAKEZ maintains formal permit and NOC processes for work performed within its jurisdiction and reserves the right to request additional information for submitted applications. Temporary Work Permit allows employees to work for another company inside or outside RAKEZ while maintaining their existing visa. It does not publish a universal approval period for every moving vehicle, so the tenant company should confirm the correct request through its RAKEZ channel before fixing the move date.
For a free-zone relocation:
- Ask the tenant or facility manager who must sponsor the request.
- Confirm whether each vehicle needs separate registration.
- Submit the mover’s trade licence and crew list together.
- Declare lifting equipment or unusual loads in advance.
- Check the approved gate, loading area and working hours.
- Keep the approved permit available for security inspection.
A last-minute vehicle substitution can invalidate the original entry details. The replacement vehicle should not travel to the gate until the new registration number has been accepted.
Which Periods Take Longer to Process?
Processing takes longer during public holidays, weekends, lease-renewal periods, and days when management offices handle a high number of move requests.
Common Causes of Delay
9 causes of delay include:
- Public holidays: Management and approval teams may be closed, while some communities prohibit moving entirely.
- Month-end bookings: Tenancy contracts often end near the final days of a month, increasing demand for permits and service lifts.
- Lease-renewal periods: Property-management teams handle more tenancy checks, clearances, and resident requests.
- Fridays and weekends: Office hours differ between buildings and communities.
- Incomplete tenancy documents: An expired or unsigned contract stops the review.
- Outstanding charges: Some managed properties delay move-out approval until applicable balances are resolved.
- Service-lift conflicts: The permit may be ready, but the requested moving slot may be unavailable.
- Vehicle changes: Security registration may need to be submitted again.
- Free-zone safety checks: Equipment, contractor, or warehouse moves require more information than a standard office relocation.
The approval period and the available moving slot are separate issues. A permit approved on Thursday does not automatically create a lift booking for Saturday.
What Is the Latest You Can Apply and Still Move on Schedule?
The latest safe application date is three working days before an apartment move, five working days before a gated-community move and seven working days before a free-zone relocation.
Use the following cut-off rule:
- Apartment building: Apply at least 3 working days before moving.
- Gated community: Apply at least 5 working days before moving.
- Free-zone property: Apply at least 7 working days before moving.
- Public holiday or month-end move: Add another 2 working days.
- Move involving heavy equipment: Confirm the permit before committing to the operating date.
An urgent application submitted after these cut-offs becomes a last-minute moving permit request. Approval may still arrive, but the move date should not be treated as secure.
The booking date depends on 3 confirmations:
- The permit
- The building or gate access
- The service-lift or loading slot
If any one of them remains unconfirmed, the moving schedule can change.
Send RAK E Movers the building or community name when requesting a quotation. We can provide the company and vehicle information needed for the application and schedule the crew around the approved access period.
Contact RAK E Movers before confirming your move date so the permit lead time can be checked against your property type.
